One of the nice things about Brisbane is the focus that they have on art and making things beautiful. You can find art in the form of street corner musicians and locals selling their art on the sidewalk. There are also many museums that have both performing and visual art. You can go and see some magnificent pieces in one of the museums or see some local stuff hanging on the wall in the nearby restaurants and coffee shops.

Anyone who has an eye for visual art will want to give themselves some time to explore the Queensland Art Gallery. There is a great variety of work here that will keep you enthralled. You never know what exhibit that you might find traveling through because other than their own collection they have many that come and go. They currently have a historical showing of hats that is really neat.

The Queensland Art Gallery has a nice sized collection of aboriginal art. This is a collection that is continually growing with ne acquisitions on a regular basis. They place a high value on the preservation of this work because it is one way of recording the history of these native people. Many of them still produce work that is held in high regard.

There are also some collections in the relatively new section of the gallery known as the Gallery of Modern Art. This addition which was completed in 2006 showcases works of fine art from the twentieth and twenty first centuries. It is right next to the Queensland Art Gallery having been built only 150 meters away.

The gallery does not charge an entrance fee except for special occasions and for certain exhibitions. This makes a visit even nicer. Like much of Brisbane the whole complex is incredibly modern and beautifully designed to become a part of the landscape that it is in. There are a few spots within the Gallery that you can have lunch. Enjoy the view of the Brisbane river at the elegant Foyer Bistro at the gallery of modern Art.
