The United States is very unique in that is has a different health care system for its citizens that most every other country in the world. In the U.S. there are no universal government programs that will offset the cost of health care for most of its citizens. Under this type of system, medical care is available for anyone if they can afford it. You can never be turned down for medical care if it is life threatening, but that pretty much covers the unique situations. Wealthy people enjoy some of the finest health care in the world, but for most of the rest of the population there is no health insurance to help them stay healthy.

It is of the majority opinion that there is too much hassles attached to health insurance plans. Not only is it not budget friendly, but there is a good chance that many of the benefits you claim will be denied and you will spend a lot of precious time trying to get necessary treatments approved, often with no luck. The insurance will pay the physician's part of the bill, however much of the medical expenses will not be paid and have to be written off as a loss, while the patient is still responsible for part of the expense. Through this whole exhausting maze, there are still many confusing questions that need answers.

Essentially we are at the mercy of the system as the doctors and health insurance companies work to take the money from our pockets and yet, what can we do? What option do we have? We couldn't possibly live without health insurance, at the very least catastrophic health insurance, something that will cover us if we have cancer or need open heart surgery, right?

Making it mandatory for every U.S. citizen to pay for their own health insurance is on its way to becoming a political mandate. The government is flexing its muscle on its own citizens and forcing everyone to carry health insurance. This mandate will assure everyone of coverage, but at what individual cost? Being able to afford these expenses will be better suited to those who kept their health care policies in force, by paying the premium in a timely manner.

It is a fact that many people will have to face the possibility or receiving news that they of a member of their family will have to deal with some form of cancer or heart disease. If you are wondering what could be more devastating, just talk to anyone who doesn't have health insurance to cover the cost. These are two of the most expensive illnesses and can ruin even the most well to do household finances to the point of no return.
