Every successful team is lean, streamlined, efficient and know what to look for and how to acquire it effectively. Regardless of the difficulty, the right positioned people will get the desired results. A great team will access the situation and agree on the best method to get what they are hired to do. It is very important for a team to have great leadership, assisted by a team that is professional in everything they do.

First you must ask yourself, what is the purpose of this team and why bother bringing it all together? The first assignment to complete is where to start and deciding where to improve. Accumulating the proper data such as measurements, time frames and numbers will give the information necessary to start and complete the whole process. Each company will have its own unique set of problems to be addressed, but some things will be consistent throughout all of them.

What you will want them to do is identify areas of the business that can be improved. Continual improvement, constant improvement is what you want to do. That way as time goes by, the processes run smoother and the job gets more efficient. The team will help to identify and implement the changes, but you are going to need to get the ideas from other places. You can't just rely on outside observers; you need the people that are in the line of fire to do the ground work.

The people on the floor have a good idea about what is going on from a day to day basis. They are on the front line, seeing what works and what doesn't work and building up ideas that might just help. They are the people that you should listen to, but not the only people to listen to. Every department should get involved because it is sometimes better to see an opinion form an outside observer. They can often time see things from a distance or another perspective that you may have missed.

Every good decision takes input from anywhere they can get input. This allows the final decision makers to make better decisions. The more information gathered will give a better breakdown analysis and cost estimates before the changes are even started.

Getting a Six sigma black belt will help a lot for certain aspects of your business. 6 sigma has what is needed to help any business move ahead.
