Chicken Pox Parties? A Health Hazard Or Good Idea?

There is a unique trend that is popping up around the country and it is one that usually causes the raising of a few eyebrows. It is the idea that mothers are intentionally looking to expose their children to contagious diseases such as the chicken pox which sounds absurd to many individuals.

People think that kids are much better off sometimes when they have a chance to naturally catch certain mild illnesses and then therefore naturally become more immune. They are choosing to control what the kids get to do then good. They are doing this instead of giving the kids the Chicken Pox vaccination. The parents have become very organized with this and have whole groups of people that are involved in the process. They have parents that will let the network know when they have a sick child and the other parents will bring their children to get infected.

When they do this the kids will get together with other kids that have the Chicken Pox and they naturally get the disease. They will then develop natural immunities. They are then immune to the disease without having to go through any false immunization process and will not have a chance of ever catching it.

There is even a belief that older generation family members will benefit from being re-exposed to the chicken pox virus because chicken pox in adults shows up as shingles and there is a growing belief that because chicken pox is not around as much these days due to vaccines that older people are developing shingles more frequently and to a higher severity then in years past. Following this thought process it is not only beneficial to children to be exposed to the Chicken Pox virus but also for everyone to be introduced to this illness every so often to help provide increased protection from Shingles as well.

This is an incredibly controversial thing to do. People don't like the idea of getting kids sick on purpose because in reality it is a dangerous thing to do. Some folks obviously think it is a great idea and are actually actively participating. Others are concerned. There are sometimes cases where Chicken Pox gets pretty bad and can be very hard to deal with. Some kids, especially older ones can get very sick and there is no way to tell whether or not your child will have that sort of reaction.
