Health care crisis is a term that none of us like to hear. Looking around however, you can quickly see that the current cost of health insurance well exceeds the means of the average person in the United States. These are not those who are lazy or those who are unemployed, they are very simply the students and working young adults of today and they are by far one of the largest groups living without health insurance.
While they understand the necessity in having health care insurance they also rationalize not having it because they are presently in good health. With current economic conditions as they are many young adults are having difficulty finding a job. The ones that have jobs are finding out their salaries are barely covering their living expenses and don't have much left over to pay for health insurance premiums. Even the bump up in the recent minimum wage amount isn't enough to cover that expense.
Even most employers are having a hard time offering the health care coverage they once included in their benefit package. Some are shifting a part of the cost to the employee while others are completing placing that entire burden on the employee. Those individuals who are being asked to get private insurance are suffering from price shock as they discover how much it cost annually for themselves and their families. Even if they can afford to get coverage, they may be disappointed in knowing the coverage isn't as extensive as they would like.
Essentially, this group that probably contains mostly healthy individuals has to pay into a pool of sick individuals which means that although they may pay a little less, their health insurance rates are still high. Not having health insurance means that these groups of people are foregoing regular doctor's visits and routine check-ups to keep an eye on their health issues and in the long run health care for this group will probably cost more because of this.
And don't think that this has no bearing on everyone else because over time these people will acquire health insurance and they will be more sickly when they enter into health insurance plans or they will remain without health insurance and will use the emergency rooms at local hospitals for care, leaving behind unpaid medical bills which will eventually be absorbed by you. When you think about this group of individuals living without health insurance it is important to realize that this does have an effect on the system and will wind up costing us all more down the road.
Having reliable
health insurance is necessary at any age. It is not hard to find affordable
health insurance for students.
