It is hard to decide whether or not you want to get the extra vehicle coverage that if offered by the rental agency. This seems like something that people always debate on. You have to decide whether you are going to waste money if you get it or do you want to get it to avoid possible cost later. Everyone wants to be protected from liability, and naturally no one wants to throw money away.

To begin with you will need to find out if you have coverage provided to you on a rental vehicle through your personal car insurance and credit card company. Usually both of these sources will provide you with insurance coverage and if you choose to use just this insurance alone you should be covered no matter what happens.

When you have coverage through your personal car insurance it does not mean that it will be easier to deal with as well as cheaper. This puts you right in between the rental company and your insurance company. The rental companies stance is that whatever happened to the car is basically your responsibility. Your insurance company will be looking to you for all of the info and documentation relating to the accident or damages.

Taking the rental insurance on that vehicle can be helpful because it lets you off the hook if anything does happen to the vehicle then it will fall in the car rental agency's lap and they will be responsible for filing claims and for repairing the vehicle. Especially if you are renting from a location that is no where near where you live this can help to save you many of the issues involved with managing the paperwork end of things between your insurance. If you have insurance through your car insurance company this is probably the cheapest way to go but it is important to keep in mind that if something does happen with that vehicle you will probably wind up dedicating many hours to get things resolved.

Whatever it is that you decide to do, make sure that you have the coverage that you need above all. Anytime that you rent a vehicle there will be a chance that something will happen. You definitely don't want to chance driving the vehicle without any insurance coverage. It does not hurt to use whatever credit card that offers coverage just in case no matter what you decide to do. You don't want to be on the other side of a case with a giant rental company as a foe.
