The principles of Six Sigma or lean manufacturing can be utilized anywhere by everybody. It does not have to be just at the office. In fact, once you begin using the principles in your work life, you'll soon bring them home to share with everybody else. It can be as simple as simply organizing your desk before leaving for home each night at work, and as easy as keeping the dirty laundry all in one place so that you do not need to search for it all over the house at home.



How much more challenging do daily tasks need to be because of being unorganized? It just adds to the pain and hassle of getting everyday things carried out in a timely manner. Oftentimes it is easier to put off what needs to be done just because starting is so difficult for a lot of individuals. When you know that you have to put in a lot more effort just to begin, it's easier just not to get started.



That's the reason it is important to have things organized in a fashion that will make the task simpler to complete. Initially, the work will still be there because you will have to do a little extra to get ready, but once the system is in place it's going to be easier and quicker each time you do it. Things such as keeping all the instruments you require to complete a job in one central place, or having a to-do list ahead of getting started. Also, whatever you can think of to do early will make it easier when the time to do the work arrives.




Being prepared to do the work because you have all the items and supplies that you require to perform the job. Nothing is worse than being forced to stop what you're up to to locate a part or some sort of supplies. This holds true regardless if you are at home or at work. The other aspect to consider is having everybody in the house following the same rules and steps.



It can not be just one individual attempting to stay organized and keep everything straight, except if they live alone, and then it wouldn’t matter. But if there are several people living in the home, they need to all be on the same page and know exactly how each step works so that nobody is fighting a losing battle.
