Finding a new job at any time is a challenge, but in a tough economy it is even more difficult. This is the time to change your thinking, and find that elusive job in a tight market. As of this moment, you have been hired; hired to find yourself a job. This means spending more than an hour or two a day seeking employment; instead plan out your tasks, follow through, and land the job you want.

Professional appearance is a must work when seeking. While different industries and employers, even in different industries have different dress codes, it is imperative that you appear professional from first contact to the first day of work. Make sure you wear clean clothes wrinkle free, which is not connected, but is not updated either. Whatever your personal style is, keep your appearance conservative.

Be sure to research any and all potential employers. Make sure you understand what they do, sell, or do, and how your unique skills can help. It is very difficult to tell a potential employer where you fit in their organization, without knowledge of the organization. In many cases, your resume or application is the first impression that human resources manager or hiring manager will see. Be sure it is free of spelling and grammar, it is neat, and it follows a logical sequence. Be personable, which is things like stating that you are a person and not a machine. Instead of saying that you have organizational skills, the show saying that you lead a team or who staged a protest. This shows that you have a practical use of specific expertise.

Arrive at the interview prepared. Being prepared for an interview encompasses all the previously stated tips. Do not forget to be asking intelligent questions. The interview is used for the potential employer to understand how you might fit in the organization, but it is also a chance for you to show that you understand what the organization is about by asking questions about the position. If interviewing for a sales position, asking how leads are generated and if someone else is responsible for them or you are is a great example of an intelligent question. Asking when you can expect your first raise is not.

After the interview, demonstrate emotional intelligence. An emotionally intelligent person understands how to appeal primarily to people to inspire them to do what you want them to do. To display this skill to a potential employer, send them a well-written thank-you letter that will appeal to your interview. This is not the time to repeat the skill set, but a moment to reiterate what has been nice to meet with them and know the company better.

If you are looking for a new job, networking is a must. No matter who you meet or talk to you, be sure to work into the conversation that you are looking for work. You never know where his head next job will come, and that could lead you to your dream job.
