Pain can be a fleeting sensation or one that continues to get progressively worse over time. Perhaps soothing music calms you or reading a good novel lets you escape into another world. Whatever brings you happiness is an activity that should be done often.

Releasing endorphins can make dealing with pain a little easier. Endorphins are chemicals that are released into your body which give you a feeling of euphoria which enhances your current mood. One way to get endorphins into your body is to exercise. Of course, one should probably consult with a doctor as the extent in which they can exercise.

Some people who are in pain will reach for an alcoholic beverage to numb the pain they are feeling. This probably isn't the best choice since there are several negative side effects when drinking alcoholic beverages. First, it depresses the nervous system which creates a greater despondency issue and it also interferes with sleep. Getting enough sleep is important when dealing with pain issues.
