There are people dealing with different forms of mental illness in all facets of society. Although there is still a stigma attached to the variety of illnesses, what needs to be understood is that it really does involve the brain not working correctly. Bipolar disorder can be hard to see in people initially, especially if you don't know the signs. The elated manic phase of the disorder is what will tell you that there is an issue. The depression that follows the elation comes up suddenly and can be very confusing. The depression is what is noticed as being a bad thing and is therefore what gets treated. Antidepressants don't work at all though for these people and will actually make the mania much worse.

Between the manic and depressed stages of the disease there is an incredible amount of irritability to deal with. It can look like the person is just moody, extremely moody, and that possibly they are just having a bad day. The mood swings are so serious that it makes it pretty much impossible for the person to maintain relationships and lead productive lives.

Conversations can also be difficult when a person has bipolar disorder and as a result you will probably find that this person will speak rapidly, out of turn, and off topic at times. It is difficult for them to follow the path of a normal conversation since their brain in just overflowing with miscellaneous information that is relevant to them.As with any mental health issue it is important to seek medication and treatment for those suffering with this disorder. The sooner treatment begins the quicker they will be able to resume some sort of normal function and order to their lives and their relationships.
