When you are renting a car you need to know the rules of the road wherever you are. So if you are going on a trip to another country then you need to make sure you know the rules of the road there and how to get around and follow the law. Taking the time to do this before you leave will help you not only to be safe but also protect yourself from any problems with the rental.

Here are a few rules that you should keep in mind if you are going to Australia sometime soon.

-Do not honk your horn. It isn't the same in the US as it is there. Honking your horn is only to show your presence so doing it in another form may only cause problems. -You need to buckle up. This is a law there (and here too so it shouldn't be a problem for anyone really). -Stay on the left if you are traveling on the freeway, the right lane is for passing only. -If you are a slow driver you should stay to the left as well. The further left you are, the safer, especially if this is your first time.

-Residential areas the speed limit is usually 60km per hour or 35mph, more recently this has been reduced to 50 km per hour in many areas. Keep an eye out for the posted speed limit. On country roads and major highways you will find the posted speed limit is usually about 100km-110km per hour or about 62mph to 68 mph. Oh, and don't forget that the speedometer on vehicles in Australia will be in Kilometers as well.

-Drive on the left. This sounds more difficult than it truly is. -Don't drink and drive, Australia has very little tolerance for those who consume alcohol and get behind the wheel, so don't test it, instead just take a taxi or limo home if you have been drinking.
