Exercise is such an important facet of good health and yet one that many over look and others avoid completely. It is something that requires work because unfortunately the average person does little to work their body on a regular basis. A sedentary lifestyle is something that plagues individuals and keeps them from achieving optimum health.

The problem is that after years of sitting around on the couch and at your computer, you cannot simply put on your running shoes and hit the pavement especially if you are not only sedentary but also overweight. While exercise is something that can be helpful for your body and your mind it is also something that can be deadly if a person is not well enough for personal activity.

It is important that when you make a conscious decision to change your life for the better and begin incorporating exercise into your daily life, that your very first stop is at the doctor's office for a check up. Implementation of exercise is only beneficial when taken on by someone who can withstand it and most who have not exercised in quite some time need to proceed with caution in this area. Your doctor can let you know if you have any health obstacles to taking on an exercise regimen.

Once you have received the green light from your doctor for implementation of exercise it is time to consider hiring on a personal trainer at least for the beginning workout sessions. One of the biggest obstacles that people face when starting an exercise plan is that they don't know what they are doing and run the risk of injury. Once injured this provides the perfect excuse to those looking to weasel out of their new fitness regimen.

A proper diet must accompany an exercise regimen. Proper nutrition is conducive to good health, an improved appearance, and superior functionality. Once your body becomes accustomed to an exercise routine, you may be pleasantly surprised and even inspired, to try to maximize your level of fitness.

Short sessions and low intensity is recommended at first. As one progresses and physical condition is improved, session length and intensity can be increased. Understanding however that adopting an exercise regimen, although beneficial, can also be harmful if it is not done properly, and in many cases, without a doctor's approval.
