Across Victoria Bridge from Brisbane's CBD, you are going to discover the Queensland Cultural Centre. This is a multi-venue arts center engineered by Robin Gibson and includes a concert and theater platform, a huge convention center, a modern building that houses the city's key art gallery, museum and the Queensland State Library. Right next to this you will be able to locate the new Queensland Gallery of Modern Art.
At the back of the complex, the Queensland Museum is home to all types of exhibits. Among the outdoor displays of the museum is the 'Dinosaur Garden' with its full sized dinosaur models of a Tyrannosaurus Rex and a Triceratops. There's also a mold of a dinosaur stampede within the museum and skeleton casts of a Muttaburrasaurus which was an Australian plant-eating dinosaur residing in Queensland. You can see the Avian Cirrus; the tiny aircraft in which Queensland's Bert Hinkler made the first England-to-Australia solo flight in the year 1928 and upstairs there is a display of Queenslands endangered species, along with a wide range of mammoth marsupials which roamed Queensland's shores one hundred thousand years ago. Within the museum is Scienceworks, a hands-on exhibit which includes interactive exhibits, optical illusions, a perception tunnel as well as frequent film shows.
The Queensland Art Gallery is Queensland's leading visual arts institution as well as a main national museum. There is an incredible fixed collection of primarily domestic and European artists. The gallery presents Australian art from 1840s through to the 1970s and the 1st floor is committed to famous Australian Artists along the lines of Sir Sydney Nolan, Arthur Boyd, William Dobell, Margaret Preston.
The new Queensland Gallery of Modern Art is in a large building overflowing with natural light. The gallery highlights] art from the 1970s up until modern day times in a range of modifying exhibitions and media; painting, sculpture and photography as well as video installation and film. The State Library of Brisbane is an amazing spot for some peace and quiet, with a significant collection of international newspapers and many other publications and stimulating reading material.
The Brisbane Performing Arts Complex is Queensland's primary theater venue where you can see a musical, concert or play. Queensland Ballet, Theatre Company, Queensland Orchestra and Opera Queensland perform routine shows at the four primary venues in the complex. You can watch a live performance at the Lyric Theatre. Playhouse, Cremorne Theatre or the Concert Hall. For something to eat, regardless of whether before or after the show, the Lyrebird Restaurant at the Lyric, close by Little Stanley Street and South Bank has excellent.
