It is extremely important today, as much as it was in the past, for businesses to employ good people and train them correctly. A good deal of what happens on a day to day basis is dependent on well trained employees. They can make or break a sale, bring back customers or make them run. Upper management is sometimes not even in the same building, which means the employees have the run of the show. Their development will depend on how well they do their job and what kind of person they are.
Good trained employees will usher in and cater to expansion opportunities in record time. A well cross trained staff for several duties and tasks will fill any void caused during day to day operations, including the hiring and termination of employees. This will put the company in the unique position of training more effectively new employees, while maintaining full use of every ones potential and job skills within the company's productive environments.
Successful companies never place personnel in positions they are untrained to handle. This type of filling job duties and positions bring a poor understanding of the job and what is expected, mis-communications and mishaps that have led to employee dismissal. Very very few company new hires start to work knowing exactly what to do and what is expected of them. This is where the proper training and procedures are important to learn and understand and followed to make everything run smooth. Don't assume that because anyone is highly educated they are immune to following the correct company policies and procedures.
Training can be improved by simply using a hands on method. Give initial instructions with a reasonable walk through time and allow them to practice on their own. Continue monitoring and answer any questions to ensure that the job is being done properly. Continue this practice through the probational period, do an evaluation to make sure they grasp the concept and make any modifications that deem necessary to make.
Making an extra effort to assure new employees that questions are encouraged pertaining to their job. This just makes for good solid working relationships. An open door policy is also a good way to make everyone feel comfortable. Without the comfortable factor, mistakes are often made, because of any confusing issues that need answered. Leaving a new employee to figure the best course of action is never a good idea. Good strong training skills will head off any problems created by employees making the wrong decisions and benefit every ones future.
