Most of the time it is the relationships in our lives that set the mood for our existence and while we may be up when our personal relationships are going well the world had better watch out when we are on the outs with someone we care about. Studies show that married people live longer than single people and yet the same studies show that if you are in a bad marriage that could shave more years off your life then being single. At first glance this may seem a little odd but when you consider the negative effects that stress has on our health it may bring the issue into better focus.
It is no secret that stress is alive and well and effects every aspect of life. High levels of stress will affect personal relationships as well as factor into our personal daily care. Anyone stressed out will allow for less time caring for themselves or their health or their well being.
Stressful relationships have many warning signs, both seen and unseen. Depression is a major player in such a relationship. This is usually joined with sleeping difficulties, decreased productivity, less energy which only increases the onset of more and deeper depression. All this turmoil has some really sobering effects on the immune system.
Stress, as much research has shown, is one of the front runners for causing overeating and is very evident in relationships that have unhappy people that will begin showing weight issue signs, especially weight gain. In the past being overweight meant that the person held the status of wealth and means, it is however a noticeable sign of increased stress and depression. This stress and depression can start the cycle of feeling less than worthy and lethargic while trying to maintaining daily functioning of life in general. If the relationship is healthy, personal care and weight issues are not usually anything to be concerned with.
If your relationship is having an adverse affect on your life and increasing the stress levels of your quality of life, you should take steps to improve the relationship and reduce the stress levels. Try yoga or meditation or marriage counseling and individual therapy until you find what works. If you cannot find the proper balance in the relationship, this might be a sign that it is time to move on with your life and the the relationship is just an unhealthy situation and is in need of termination. This should reduce the stress on your body, mind and health and possibly save you from some form of stress related illnesses.
