Every parent should be aware that their children will be at risk for many things; one of which is the pesky little creatures a.k.a. lice. These creatures are common in environments where children share clothing and use personal items such as hair brushes and combs.
Maybe hearing that lice only seek out the healthy and clean scalps to take up residence on is comforting to some parents, but for most, they only want to find a quick and effective way to rid themselves, their children and home of anything even remotely connected to a blood sucking lice infestation and stop them from crawling around anywhere forever. Knowing that lice chose your child's head because it was clean is not a very effective way to downplay the fact that lice are present and present a real health danger to everyone.
Ridding your child of head lice can often be a daunting task and the hundreds of useless OTC remedies are no great help either. You will also learn that it will take more than washing and combing till their scalp is raw to rid them of the blood suckers. Lice are very stubborn head stead-ers in their hair nests and can sometimes be hard to get rid of and often just the thoughts of lice can make your head itch without probable cause.
Basically there seems to be three successful ways to rid themselves of a lice invasion. One is a lice shampoo that is available through a doctor's prescription, but even it might not always work. There is also natural, herbal, and experimental lice treatments that some people swear by that can be found on line or on your local health food store shelve, which like the first way might or might not work to eradicate the lice problem. However, one treatment that is very inexpensive, requires a average of $3 in cost for a jar of Vaseline and a very cheap shower cap. Apply a very thick coat of the Vaseline covered by the shower cap and then put them to bed. This is not only an effective treatment, but will suffocate the lice, the unhatched eggs and prevent re-infestation. It seems lice want no part of a greasy environment either.
Vaseline works really well and even better than mayonnaise, as some would suggest. Mayonnaise just doesn't have the oil properties or the staying power that Vaseline has. Vaseline is highly recommended by schools, doctors and local Health Departments because of the documented success this product has had for years. If you even suspect lice is going to be a problem, look past the tired and useless over priced OTC lice treatments to the Vaseline shelf and get the best remedy for the lice problem. Dealing with greasy hair for about a week is a picnic compared to long drawn out battle against lice with lesser successful lice treatments.
