Americans tend to have a misconception regarding uninsured individuals. The premise is that they are homeless or are receiving assistance from the state. Surprisingly, eight out of every ten uninsured individuals are employed or a dependent of a person who is employed. This statistic sheds a different light on what most of us believe.

Approximately 44 million Americans are living without health insurance benefits right now. And an additional 38 million are living without adequate health insurance. Essentially this means that one third of the population living in the U.S. are walking a thin line and are left wondering if they can even get medical attention if a health issue or crisis arises. That is a huge portion of the population. Life without health insurance means no regular checkups and no preventative care. It means no immunizations for the children and limited access to medical treatment, dental care, and prescriptions. This limited access to care can mean big medical bills down the road and treatment of much more serious conditions as well. But surely this is not your problem or is it?

Those living without medical coverage in this country are very much a burden to those who are insured because they are taking from an already struggling system. If they aren't paying their bills, then guess who is? It's you and everyone else who is paying for their health insurance, for their medical bills, and for the care they are receiving. And how are you paying for their care? Well, for every loss the local hospital incurs their prices go up and as their prices rise so do your health insurance premiums and the spiral continues.

While mostly everyone agrees that our medical system needs a major overhaul, the average American that has medical coverage just wants to put heir head in the sand and believe that these issues don't really have an effect on them. They couldn't be more wrong.

The current health care reform may upfront seem to be costing everyone a bit more but in the long run if we can get everyone covered under some sort of health insurance plan this will be best for everyone across the board. It will be much less expensive to have these uninsured individuals covered under insurance and receive regular health care then it will be to leave things the way they are. And even if we could leave everything status quo, ultimately the experts say that in the end this will cause the government and the health care system to go bankrupt and then where will we be?

Everyone wishes to find affordable health insurance. Together with Health savings accounts works well for tons of people.
