What is the future of health insurance in the United States? While many believe that the present reform strategies are a little extreme almost all experts say that these changes are simply the beginning of things to come. So what is the future of health care in America?
It almost seems as if no one actually knows. For a while it was assumed that the U.S. government was moving towards a nationalized health care system and people were fearful. Not because they did not believe that a reform was needed but very simply because most of the countries that were using this kind of uniform health care system are moving away from it because it was not successful.
For the most part it is believed that the United States won't be moving to this kind of system but more of a privately owned and run, government regulated system in which the insurance companies have to follow a set of criteria set forth by the government. At this point that does seem to be what is happening. This can be seen in the changes that are being government mandated such as the removal of a lifetime maximum benefit across the board. Many of the health care changes fall under compliance issues on behalf of the insurance companies.
Overall there are many changes being set forth that have individuals concerned, however, most of the changes are being made for the greater good and will result in better care overall even though it might cost a little more up front. One of the largest and best changes that is coming up is the elimination of pre-exiting condition denials which will substantially help those individuals who have been refused health insurance because of an illness. Many who have been denied insurance will now be eligible to receive health insurance coverage again. This is of course a concern because of the extra strain that these sick individuals will place on the system however it's for this reason that the government is looking to mandate health insurance coverage for all individuals which will help to decrease the risk pool.
In an attempt to keep health care costs down and keep the federal government from going bankrupt numerous health changes will be heading our way over the next decade. Hopefully these changes will help to strengthen the overall structure of the system and reduce costs making health care more affordable to all in the long run.
