Paternalistic directors are parents such as their employees. This tends to be more autocratic then democratic, but this method takes more account of the wishes of employees and their needs. There are more two-way communication, but ultimately the director is in charge and employees must follow the rules, regardless of how they feel about them. While getting a say in what happens in the end shall be according to what their managers say.
Democratic management is the favorite amongst both managers and employees. This form of management gives employees the most say in the business and allows them to vote and be involved in decision making. Delegation allows employees to feel more involved and helps to build morale. This management strategy allows all to feel that they are on the same side and helps to foster teamwork. A democracy is usually more pleasing to everyone involved because there is a sense of shared responsibility.
Overall, choosing a management strategy depends on not only the structure of the business that is being managed as well as the ability of the staff to help manage themselves. Any manager can select one or a combination of these management techniques but in the finish the happiest employees and managers are usually those working within a democratic process and this is the management structure that most companies today are striving for.
