Back in the day, a PPO or indemnity plan was the preferred choice of job seekers who wanted to stay clear of the less expensive and inferior HMO health insurance plan offered by some employers. However, time changes things and this is very true about the once less desirable Health Maintenance Organization health care. Today, these HMO's offer the same level of care as other plans, but are less expensive for both employers and employees.

This less expensive and equal care plan is not without limits; as a matter of fact it has very strict guidelines. What makes this plan less desirable is that the policy holder is limited to their primary provider for all their health care needs. Every health issue must be reviewed by the primary physician before they can seek referred help and usually presents a problem if the primary physician is less than desirable.

But there are many benefits to these plans as doctors are monitored for the services they provide and therefore they are better regulated than doctors who are in private practice. This means that someone is keeping a good eye on these doctors and complaints about these doctors because the HMO will not hang onto a physician that is going to spoil their reputation.

Other important benefits is the quality of care that is provided by many excellent specialist within a HMO plan that works along side the primary care physician for the best care available with very little out of pocket expenses and over priced deductibles to meet. It combines quality health care and affordable health care for all policy holders.

HMO plans would rather you seek professional help from their rouster of doctors, but should you decide to seek help from someone outside the group, you out of pocket expenses and deductibles will be significantly higher then group authorized professionals. You will also have to be referred to any in group care providers by your primary care physician and have to schedule according to the availability of the physician schedule.

It is easy to see why Health Maintenance Organizations are booming in the current economy. At a time when people are just glad to have quality health insurance, even an HMO can seem like a blessing.

Effective health insurance is crucial at all stages of life. Many colleges now require Student Health insurance for all attending full time.
